{"id":592,"date":"2014-09-01T09:10:34","date_gmt":"2014-09-01T13:10:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scottsfilmreviews.com\/?p=592"},"modified":"2026-05-08T16:03:00","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T20:03:00","slug":"bachelor-party-1984","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scottsfilmreviews.com\/?p=592","title":{"rendered":"Bachelor Party-1984"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bachelor Party-1984<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Director Neal Israel<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Starring Tom Hanks, Adrian Zmed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Scott&#8217;s Review #163<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/scottsfilmreviews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/60020725.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1070\" src=\"http:\/\/scottsfilmreviews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/60020725-210x300.jpg\" alt=\"60020725\" width=\"210\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scottsfilmreviews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/60020725-210x300.jpg 210w, https:\/\/scottsfilmreviews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/60020725.jpg 284w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Reviewed September 1, 2014<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grade: D<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Watching Bachelor Party (1984) for the very first time, circa 2014, and the last time I plan on watching this film, I realized almost immediately how dated it is and that, at this point, it can only be enjoyed for nostalgia.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t fathom anyone watching Bachelor Party for the first time and thinking it is a great film- it is not.<\/p>\n<p>If not for Tom Hanks becoming a huge star, this comedy would be forgotten, as there are dozens of like-minded films from the 1980s that resemble it- think Pretty in Pink (1986), National Lampoon films, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The premise is basic- Rick (Hanks) and Debbie (Tawny Kitaen) are engaged, and Rick&#8217;s friends throw a Bachelor party while Debbie goes out with the girls.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, Debbie&#8217;s parents hate Rick and, along with her ex, scheme to break them up.<\/p>\n<p>Every decade seems to have a similar carbon copy of this party-themed film- Animal House (1978), American Pie (1999), and The Hangover (2009), though not as entertaining as the aforementioned films.<\/p>\n<p>All the characters are caricatures, one-note, and types.
