Jordan, Octavia Spencer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Scott&#8217;s Review #64<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/scottsfilmreviews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/70267488.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1315\" src=\"http:\/\/scottsfilmreviews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/70267488-210x300.jpg\" alt=\"70267488\" width=\"210\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scottsfilmreviews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/70267488-210x300.jpg 210w, https:\/\/scottsfilmreviews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/70267488.jpg 284w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Reviewed June 24, 2014<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grade: B+<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Not knowing all of the details of this incident, but only taking into account the details the film presents, Fruitvale Station (2013) is a good film.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the film is in the lead-up to the big incident.<\/p>\n<p>While not perfect, the victim is presented as a good guy, who helps strangers, and stray dogs, loves his daughter, and has a great heart.<\/p>\n<p>He lives a tough life, has been in and out of prison, and is forced to sell drugs to make a living.<\/p>\n<p>But he has a strong family unit (mother, grandmother, girlfriend, friends) so he lives a decent life.<\/p>\n<p>The cops in question are presented very negatively (intense, racist, and brutal).<\/p>\n<p>Again, I don&#8217;t know what happened, but obviously, the filmmakers are on the victim&#8217;s side (as they should be). The police reasons are revealed at the end of the film.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a heartfelt, good, solid portrayal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Independent Spirit Award Nominations: 1 win-<\/strong>Best Male Lead-Michael B.
